In the book of Genesis Dinah (Hebrew: דִּינָה, “judged; vindicated”) was the daughter of Jacob, one of the patriarchs with his first wife Leah. The incident of her violation by Shechem, the son of a Canaanite or Hivite prince, and the subsequent revenge of his brothers Simeon and Levi, commonly referred to as the rape of Dinah, is recounted in Genesis 34.
