It means “married” in Hebrew. The name is used in the Old Testament to refer to the land of Israel (Isaiah 62, 4).

The name Beulah is derived from the verb בעל (ba’al), which means to possess, to rule. The name Beulah appears only once in the Bible. The prophet Isaiah mentions it in a small list of nicknames for Jerusalem and Zion (Isaiah 62, 4). The name Beulah is applied to the land of Judah and Israel.
