Belial

Gender Masculine
Scripts בְּלִיַעַל (Ancient Hebrew)

Means “worthless” in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this term is used to refer to various wicked people. In the New Testament, Paul uses it as a name for Satan. Alternate spellings include Baalial, Balial, Belhor, Beliall, Beliar, Berial, and Beliya’al.

The word belial originally appears in phrases such as “sons of belial,” which is why it was treated as a personal name in later texts, even though it is not an actual name. It has been associated with Satan (Βελιαλ; 2Corinthians 6, 15 see also 2Thessalonians 2, 3), Hannah (daughter of Belial – 1Samuel 1, 16), David (2Samuel 16, 7), and a handful of others (Deuteronomy 13, 13, 1Samuel 2, 12, 1Kings 21, 10).
