Azriel

Gender Masculine
Scripts עֲזְרִיאֵל (Ancient Hebrew)

Means “my help is GOD”, derived from Hebrew עָזַר (‘azar) meaning “help” and אֵל (‘el) meaning “GOD”. This was the name of three minor characters in the Old Testament.

There are three men named Azriel in the Bible, not counting the five named Azarel, which is a highly similar name, or Adriel, which is this name in Aramaic.
The Azriels of the Bible are:

  • A treacherous household chief of Manasseh (1 Chronicles 5, 24).
  • The father of Jerimoth, who was in charge of Israel’s tribe of Naphtali (1 Chronicles 27, 19).
  • The father of Seraiah who king Jehoiakim ordered to arrest Jeremiah and Baruch (Jeremiah 36, 26).
