[…] I was stopped at least three or four times a day by strangers to be invited to take the famous çay tea with them, and that day the place of my break was a sort of mechanical workshop, equipped in a small place at street level. Among all the myriad of objects and iron tools present, a cast iron stove with a big aluminium jug on top stood out, in the middle of that room my tea was already warming. Despite the language barriers I tried to exchange a few words with the kind elders who had invited me, it seems that the moral code of hospitality in Turkey does not provide that someone can pass through your land without being welcomed with benevolence, and that typical small glass filled with tea, and the company of the people present, was the best form of hospitality to which I could aspire.
