Azarel

Gender Masculine
Scripts עֲזַרְאֵל (Ancient Hebrew)

Means “God has helped” in Hebrew, from the verb עזר (azar), to help, and the word אל (‘el), GOD.

The name Azarel is surprisingly popular in the Bible. There are five men mentioned with the name Azarel, and that’s not counting the three men named Azriel, which is a very similar name, or the name Adriel, which is the Aramaic version.

The Azarels of the Bible are:

A soldier listed among David’s mighty men (1Chronicles 12, 6);
A son of Heman and musician to David (1Chronicles 25, 18) who appears to be called Aziel in Chronicles 15, 20 and Uzziel in 28, 3.
A son of Jeroham and leader of the tribe of Dan in Israel (1Chronicles 27, 22).
A son of Bani who divorced his foreign wife during Ezra’s purge (Ezra 10, 41).
A son of Ahzai mentioned among the kohanim instituted after returning from Babylon (Nehemiah 11, 13 and 12, 36).
