Be Holy
One of the many attributes of GOD that makes Him so great is His holiness. Being holy is an abstract idea for many, who idealize it as an attribute linked to goodness, and turning away from sin. But by studying the Holy Scriptures one better understands the depth of this attribute of GOD, capable of bringing humans closer to Divine beings.
Holiness is a state of perfection then, and being sanctified is like being “set apart,” separated from the “common people,” a state of holiness as opposed to the sinful nature of human beings.
To demonstrate what it means to truly be Holy, GOD set aside the descendants of Abraham to form a nation and show the whole world what it means to be Holy for the Lord. He instituted the Law to show what was right and what was wrong, clear rules to help keep people in righteousness, stating, “For I am the LORD your GOD. Consecrate yourselves therefore and be holy, for I am holy. You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming thing that crawls on the ground” (Leviticus 11:44).
Leviticus 11, 44
“For I am the LORD your GOD Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. And you shall not make yourselves unclean with any of the swarming things that swarm on the earth.”
Leviticus 11, 45
“For I am the LORD who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your GOD; thus you shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Leviticus 19, 2
“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the LORD your GOD am Holy.
Leviticus 20, 26
‘Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I the LORD am Holy; and I have set you apart from the peoples to be Mine.
1 Peter 1, 16
because it is written, “You shall be Holy, for I am Holy.”
Leviticus 20, 7
“You shall consecrate yourselves therefore and be holy, for I am the LORD your GOD.”
1 Peter 1, 15
but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
Leviticus 21, 8
“You shall consecrate him, therefore, for he offers the food of your GOD; he shall be holy to you; for I the LORD, who sanctifies you, am holy.
Deuteronomy 23, 14
“Since the LORD your GOD walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to defeat your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be Holy; and He must not see anything indecent among you or He will turn away from you.
